When sunlight hits glass surfaces, solar energy enters the building and is converted into heat there. Modern architecture with expansive glazing systems brings plenty of daylight into the interior, but at the same time, heat gain also increases.
External shading blocks the sun’s rays before they reach the glazing systems, thereby reducing the heating of interior spaces. Less heat inside the building helps keep the indoor climate comfortable for longer.
The information on this page is based on scholarly publications on summer heat protection and the effectiveness of sun protection systems.
