UV protection is particularly important if your terrace has a glass roof, since you want to let as little heat as possible through the glass; it's therefore advisable to install the awning above the glass. The lighter the colour of the fabric, the lower the UV protection; we therefore recommend darker fabrics with higher UV protection if your terrace has a glass canopy. 

The best way to test a fabric sample is by holding it up to the sun, since the fabric may look different in cloudy weather. The effect can vary greatly, especially if the fabric is transparent. 

Regular awnings are usually designed to protect against the sun; there are no waterproof awning fabrics. Acrylic awning fabrics offering sun protection are impregnated to make them water-repellent, enabling them to withstand light, brief rainfall when inclined at an angle of at least 14°. In the event of heavy or prolonged rainfall, you should always retract awnings to prevent damage. If an awning has been retracted while wet, you should always extend it again as soon as possible to allow it to dry. 

Only retract the fabric if it is dry; if you need to retract the fabric because of wind or heavy rain, you should extend it again within one to two days to allow it to dry. 

We offer a wide range of valance awning fabrics to meet different needs, including transparent fabrics that allow you to see into the distance while still protecting you from prying eyes and the sun. Ask for advice and test the fabric samples against the light when the sun is shining. 

Soltis or blockout fabrics are a good choice, depending on whether you want sun protection and a view into the distance or a darkening effect.  

Awning fabric provides pleasant shade for many years and creates an atmosphere of well-being, even in adverse weather conditions. But even the most robust fabric loses its UV protection or fades over time.
